BOSTON TIBETAN HERITAGE CENTER
Background & Justification
With the passing of Immigration Act of 1990, by the US Congress, and the subsequent immigration of a thousand exiled Tibetans to various cities in the US, Boston was one of the preferred cluster sites. The first group of immigrants under the scheme who first arrived here will be celebrating 32 glorious years next year and the extended community now has around 700 Tibetans who now call the Greater Boston area their home.
As the community grows exponentially and as more Tibetans settle in the Greater Boston area, the need for a Tibetan Heritage Center has become more pronounced. The Tibetan Association of Boston was formed in 1992, is a non-profit organization 501-3C, which strives to preserve and promote the unique Tibetan culture, tradition and further the cause of Tibet.
With our rich, ancient Tibetan civilization at the crossroads and great threat, we in exile are under tremendous fear of losing our unique identity. The Tibetan Association of Boston is thus working hard to protect and preserve its rich, ancient culture, language and heritage, and with a center, we will be able to provide the necessary space for the community to share and bequeath something to our children. The center, will further ensure, and strengthen the commitment to Boston’s many friends of Tibet and reach out to other members of the broader communities who have much interest and passion to learn about Tibet’s glorious past and be a part of the on-going struggle.
Achievement and Challenge
With yours great support and generosity we were able to purchase the building located at 46 Clinton St. Chelsea, MA 02150 in 2019. The Tibetan Association of Boston have been doing extensive renovation since acquiring the building. However, TAB's current financial status we are facing financial hardship to complete the renovation project, thus we seek funds from our own members and likeminded individuals, donors and supporters who appreciate the mission, and vision of our work. The Tibetan Heritage Center will function as a gateway to promote and preserve our culture and heritage, where the multi-purpose hall will be able to accommodate 500 people, a shrine room, a library, and classrooms where we will be able to hold our Sunday school programs. Our dreams and aspirations are loud and clear, and with your generous support and help, this may just come true.
